Pure water - too much to ask?Crummock Water and Ennerdale Water in the western English Lake District are the source of the water for the towns and villages of West Cumbria. Before it reaches our taps, this pure mountain water has fluoride - an industrial waste product of the fertiliser industry - added to it, on the instructions of the Department of Health. Fluoride is added because some medical professionals believe that it helps to reduce tooth decay. Not all agree, however. Fluoride can also be harmful to teeth, especially those of children, causing dental fluorosis, an ugly brown staining. Fluoride is also believed by many to be the cause of other health issues, including thyroid-related problems.
In Europe, the enforced medication by water fluoridation has been ruled illegal, and an infringement of human rights. It has also been ruled illegal in Scotland, just a few miles away! Cumbrians Against Fluoridation believe that the people of West Cumbria should have the same rights as other citizens of Europe. Cumbrians Against Fluoridation wish to be able to enjoy the pure natural local water of our area free of fluoride. We think that those who feel that fluoridated water is making them ill, or who simply do not wish to take this medication, should not be forced to buy bottled water or install water filters at great expense in order to avoid it. If you agree with us, please join our campaign. Bit of a mouthful? We know cumbrians-against-fluoridation.org.uk is a bit of a struggle to type, say or spell correctly! To make it easier, you can use the short address xaddr.com/c when telling someone about the site or mentioning it in a newspaper or magazine article. xaddr.com is a URL shortener that creates short, easy-to-type web addresses which you can use as a substitute for the original long ones. |
