Cumbrians against Fluoridation, 22 March, 2007

Since the late 1960s West Cumbria and areas of Tyneside have had artificial fluoride (heaxafluorosilic acid supplied as a by-product of a fertiliser company) added to their water.

In 2000 an independent , comprehensive review of Fluoridation research at York University commissioned by this government reported a 44% occurence of dental fluorosis (excess fluoride) in fluoridated areas. They advised further research.

The DoH dismisses dental fluorosis as cosmetic and has failed to produce any research about the impact on the skeleton or the health of children and adults with dental fluorosis, 10 , 20, 30 +years later.

Cumbrians against Fluoridation, have asked the DoH the following:

This last question is one of great concern. On enquiry the DoH has said it advises breastfeeding and failing that to consider purchasing ready made infant formula. So they are suggesting parents avoid using fluoridated water, but only if asked about it.

No information about how to avoid excess fluoride is readily available in fluoridated areas. No research evidence for the long term consequences of dental fluorosis has ever been presented by the DoH. This action would not be tolerated if it were a drugs company experimenting upon the public.

Cumbrians against Fluoridation have printed 5,000 postcards with the above questions and an image of fluoride damaged teeth. Individuals can now readily post their objection to being medicated without permission or information and ask for the research evidence that should already be in place to support artifical water fluoridation.
